CARAVAGGIO
Step into the streets of Rome at the turn of the 17th century and encounter the explosive realism of Caravaggio, the artist who transformed European painting forever.
This immersive 2.5-hour walking tour follows Caravaggio’s life and masterpieces in the very churches for which they were painted. Rather than viewing art in a museum, you will experience his works in situ, surrounded by candlelight, marble chapels, and the theatrical architecture of the Baroque city — exactly as his first viewers did.
Caravaggio rejected idealized beauty. He painted saints with dirty feet, wrinkled skin, and the faces of ordinary Romans. He used radical contrasts of light and darkness (chiaroscuro) to stage scenes like dramatic theatre. The result shocked his patrons — and changed art history.
